Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 25, 2026
TL;DR: Raincheck doesn't collect, store, or share any of your personal data. Your privacy is our top priority.
What Data We Collect
None. Raincheck does not collect any personal information, browsing data, or calendar contents.
What Data We Store
The extension stores only the following information locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:
- Location preferences: The city/coordinates you configure for weather forecasts
- Temperature unit preference: Whether you prefer Fahrenheit or Celsius
This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to any server we control.
Third-Party Services
To provide weather forecasts, Raincheck makes requests to the following third-party services:
Open-Meteo API
- Purpose: Fetch weather forecast data
- Data sent: Geographic coordinates (latitude/longitude) only
- Privacy policy: https://open-meteo.com/en/terms
- Note: Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather API that does not require API keys and does not track users
IP Geolocation Service (ip-api.com)
- Purpose: Auto-detect your approximate location when you first install the extension
- Data sent: Your IP address (automatically sent by your browser)
- Data received: City name and coordinates
- Privacy policy: https://ip-api.com/docs/legal
- Note: This is only used once during initial setup. You can change your location manually at any time.
OpenStreetMap Nominatim
Access to Google Calendar
Raincheck runs on https://calendar.google.com/* to display weather information overlaid on your calendar view. The extension:
- Does NOT read, modify, or access your calendar events
- Does NOT create or delete calendar events
- Does NOT access event details, attendees, or descriptions
- Only reads the current date/time range visible on your screen to display relevant weather forecasts
Permissions Explained
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage: To save your location and temperature unit preferences locally
- host_permissions for calendar.google.com: To inject weather information into the calendar interface
- host_permissions for weather APIs: To fetch weather forecast data
We only request the minimum permissions necessary for the extension to function.
Data Security
Since we don't collect or transmit any personal data to our servers, there is no data to secure on our end. All your preferences are stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage API.
